The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz

The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz | full movie (2014) is available for free on YouTube, (and here at the video below.)

Who is Aaron Swartz?

Swartz was an American computer programmer, writer, political organizer and Internet activist who helped to create Reddit. Swartz was determined to create humane technology that would help to connect and inform humans, through Reddit. But his quest was sidelined too early with his tragic death. This well made film features interviews with his family and friends as well as the internet luminaries and personalities who knew and worked with him. The documentary tells his tragic story up to his eventual suicide after a ruthless legal battle, and explores the very relevant questions the world is reckoning with about social media, access to information and civil liberties that drove his work to create Reddit.

By Director / Producer: Brian Knappenberger, this film is very Solarpunk and community driven in its creations and is made available under the Creative Commons license: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported.

I cannot recommend this enough as the story of Swartz has had a profound impact on me.

In the Serpent Seed series, I based a character on Aaron Swartz--Darren Schwartz.

In the Serpent Seed, Darren is the creator of technology that is imbedded into fashion such as shirts, hats, bracelets, scarves, jackets etc. The technology protects all who wear it from being recorded by surveillance video or the common camera of a cell phone. It also blocks image recognition technology used by drones, marketing agencies and authorities to monitor people. It seemed a fitting honor for Aaron.
